At St Charles, pupils in Key Stage 2 learn French through the Lightbulb Languages scheme of work. This engaging and progressive programme helps children develop confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing in French through interactive lessons, songs, games and cultural activities.
Children explore a range of topics including greetings and introductions, numbers, colours, family, school life, food, hobbies, weather and places around town. These units help pupils to build vocabulary, understand simple grammar and use the language in real-life contexts.
We also celebrate European Languages Day each year, giving children the opportunity to explore other languages and cultures, take part in themed activities and appreciate the diversity of our European community.
Our aim is to inspire pupils to enjoy learning a new language, broaden their understanding of the wider world and lay strong foundations for language learning at secondary school.
