Welcome to Year 5!

The children have settled in really well in Year 5 and are already working very hard.
Our topics:
This half term our topic is World War Two with a focus on history where we will be looking at how World War Two affected Manchester. In maths, we are looking at place value and decimals, the properties of shapes and the multiplication and division of fractions. There will be a times table test every Friday morning so it is important that the children learn these as often as possible.

In literacy we will be doing lots of work on The Blitz, including poetry writing, descriptive writing and diary entries.
In RE the children are looking at Gifts from God and are learning about creation. In science our topic this term is Properties and Changes of Materials.

Every Monday, a teacher from the MAPAS organisation will be working with the children in Music.

We will have PE every Thursday afternoon so can the children please make sure they bring in their PE kits.

The children should be reading for at least ten minutes at home, every evening. Reading records will be checked and stamped each morning to make sure a parent has signed it.

Homework will be given out on a Friday to be completed and returned by the following Wednesday. Your child will be given weekly spellings every Friday along with their homework. These are to be learnt at home and we will have a spelling test the following Friday in school.
