St Matthew = KINDNESS

Patron Saint of: Tax collectors, accountants
Born: 1st Century AD
Died: 74 AD
Feast Day: 21st September
Attributes: Angel

St Matthew was a dishonest tax collector driven by greed until Jesus Christ chose him as a disciple and showed St Matthew KINDNESS.  Matthew was named Levi before his call by Jesus.  'Matthew' means 'the gift of God.'  On the day Jesus invited Matthew to follow Him, Matthew showed KINDNESS to his friends by hosting a great farewell feast in his home.  He invited all his friends so that they could meet Jesus too.  From that day on, instead of collecting tax money, Matthew collected souls for Christ.   Despite his sinful past, Matthew displayed one of the most radically changed lives in the Bible.  He left behind all his riches to follow Jesus.

St Mark = PERSEVERANCE

St Mark is known as the 'Evangelist'.  The purpose of the Gospel is to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to the world and to encourage believers to endure and PERSEVERE in the face of difficulty and persecution.  St Mark is thought to be the first Gospel writer.  he is also thought to be St Peter's 'interpreter' writing down accurately what St Peter remembered.  St Mark is believed to be the 'John Mark' referred to in the Acts of the Apostles.

St Luke = COMPASSION

Patron Saint of: Artists and surgeons

St Luke was a doctor he showed love and COMPASSION to the people that he healed.  He was a missionary who accompanied St Paul on his missions.  St Paul describes him as 'beloved'.  "Luke the beloved physician." (Colossians 4:14)
St Luke wanted to proclaim the Good News.  He stayed loyal to St Paul when he was imprisoned in Rome.  After everyone else deserts St Paul in his final imprisonment and sufferings it is only St Luke who remains with St Paul to the end.  This demonstrates the COMPASSION of St Luke
